Box Score Jacksonville, Fla— Winthrop softball used a three-run fifth inning to help earn a 4-3 victory at North Florida, Tuesday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ospreys took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Kayla McGory came through with a two-out RBI single down the left field line
- Winthrop gave itself a good opportunity to tie the game immediately in the top of the fourth as Gilreath led off with a single and pinch-runner Ashton Vanhouse moved to second after an Ashley Westbrooks single
- With one out, Chloe Baker singled to load the bases for pinch-hitter Taylor Charlton
- Charlton line an 0-2 count right at the pitcher who made the catch for the out and then got Bailey Warren to ground out to end the threat
- Macy McCall reached on an error to start the 5th inning and then stole second
- Lauren King then reached on an error to put runners at the corners and no outs
- Pinch-runner Reema Patel stole second to put two runners in scoring position
- Two batters later Gilreath hit a deep ball to right to score McCall from third and tie the game at 1-1
- Westbrooks walked and then stole second to put runners and second and third with two outs
- Kaitlyn Tucker stood in and took a 2-2 pitch up the middle, scoring Patel and Westbrooks for a 3-1 lead
- Eagles added to their lead in the sixth inning as Charlton singled down the left field line to lead off
- Warren was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second and then McCall loaded the bases on a bunt single
- Lauren King drove him Charlton from third with a sacrifice fly to left for a 4-1 lead
- The threat ended as North Florida's defense was able to turn an inning-ending double play
- Paige Pfent cut the Winthrop lead in half with a two-out RBI single to left
- Logan. Jackson led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a homerun to right to make it a one run game
- After the Eagles recorded back-to-back outs but Brittany Sundermeier singled followed by a double to left center by Taylor Engman to put runners at second and third
- Aisha Weixlmann ended the game as she caught a line drive off the bat of Shannon Glover
EXTRA BASES
- Tucker's two RBI in the fifth inning were the first of her collegiate career
- The victory gives head coach Windy Thees 449 career victories and will have a shot at 450 at home this weekend
- Westbrooks has 175 career hits now and is six away from 13th on the Winthrop all-time hit list
- Eagles are now 2-0 this season in 1-run games

The Eagles will host the Winthrop Kickoff Tournament Feb. 19-21 as they'll open their home schedule on Friday at noon against Bowling Green at noon and then face Stony Brook following that game.
