Miami, Fla— Winthrop softball fell 5-3 at Florida International on the final of the Feldburg's Invitational after a walk-off homerun, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ansley Gilreath's 4th homerun of the season to start off the second inning to give the Eagles an early lead
- In the third inning Madyson Watson ripped a homerun to center for a 2-0 lead
- In the third and fourth innings, FIU had runners in scoring position and each time Watson ending the inning with a strikeout
- Eagles added a third run in the fourth inning when Kaitlyn Tucker led off with a double to left center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Vianna Rodriguez two batters later
- After Macy McCall walked, Lauren King came through with a single to right that scored Tucker from third
- FIU scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the seventh including the three-run walk-off homerun by Venessa Gallegos
- Watson took the loss in the circle falling to 1-2 on the year after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- Gilreath is now all alone in 4th all-time at Winthrop with 24 career and has now homered in four out of five games to start the season
- The Eagles have hit a homerun in four straight games, best streak of homeruns to start a season since 2013
- Gilreath's two hits put her in a tie for 37th on Winthrop's all-time hit list
- McCall had a good weekend in her first games as an Eagle, batting .429 with two runs, an RBI and three steals
- Both Gilreath and McCall have five-game hitting streaks while Taylor Charlton has reached base in all four games she's played this year
