How it Happened
First Quarter | Claflin scored the first basket of the game before Luka Malinka drained a three pointer for the first Eagle bucket of the day. The Lady Panthers scored in the paint again, but a J'Mani Ingram layup gave Winthrop a lead they would not relinquish. The Eagles scored the next 11 points of the contest for a 16-4 lead before Claflin drew any closer. The Lady Panthers scored six of the last nine points of the quarter to get within 19-10 at the quarter break.

Second Quarter | Ingram scored the first basket of the second quarter to give Winthrop a double-digit lead. The teams then traded buckets before consecutive Ingram layups, a Sierra Hunter free throw, and a Caroline De Klauman layup extended the lead to 30-12. Claflin continued to battle and made a three pointer with 24 seconds on the clock. The Eagles went into the locker room with a 33-17 lead.

Third Quarter | An Ingram layup and a Malinka and-one quickly ballooned the Eagle lead to 21 points. The margin stayed right around 20 for the next few minutes before the Lady Panthers began to chip into the lead. The visitors closed the lead to 15 points with less than two minutes to play in the quarter and then hit another three pointer a short time later to get within 12. Yet another Claflin three pointer closed the lead to 10 points as the contest went into its final stanza.

Fourth Quarter | An and-one from the Lady Panthers cut the lead to seven points just nine seconds into the fourth quarter. A small run from Winthrop extended the lead back to 14 points before a 5-0 run from the visitors slashed it back to nine points with eight minutes left to play. After a couple scoreless minutes, Claflin hit a three pointer to get within six points at 55-49. A De Klauman layup got the lead back to ten points, but the game was far from over. A Lady Panther layup closed the lead to five points with just under three minutes to play and a jumper cut the lead to three with just under a minute to play. Although both teams had multiple chances, Winthrop scored the last three points of the contest for the victory.
