Patrick Good combined for 42 points to lead Winthrop men's basketball to an 82-74 victory over Washington Saturday night.

FIRST HALF
- Eagles got off to a good start, scoring the first seven points of the game
- D.J. Burns Jr. got things going when he knocked down a 15-foot jumper and then found Drew Buggs in the corner for a three and 5-0 lead
- Following a defensive possession with Micheal Anumba drawing a charge, Burns Jr. scored on the other end with a small hook
- A leftwing three by Daejon Davis opened the scoring for the Huskies
- 10 of the first 14 points for the Eagles came off turnovers
- Leading 14-10, Russell Jones Jr. buried a three and then Burns Jr. hit a short jumper for a nine point advantage
- Washington used the three ball to keep pace and chip away at the Eagles lead before halftime
- Trailing 19-10 the Huskies hit threes on four of their next five made field goals and grabbed their first lead at 28-27 with 2:42 left in the half
- Cory Hightower responded on the next possession by getting the ball inside and working his way into a made basket while getting fouled as he completed it to regain the lead at 30-28
- Burns Jr. put the lead back to four points at 32-28 with 1:18 left as he knocked down a 12-foot jumper
- Eagles shot 45 percent from the floor while the Huskies shot 40 percent as Winthrop led 35-30 at the break
SECOND HALF
- Patrick Good opened the scoring in the second half as he drilled a three for a 38-30 advantage
- Over the first four minutes the teams traded buckets as the Eagles led 42-34 at the first media timeout (16:00)
- Following two free throws by Davis, the Eagles extended the lead to double-figures behind Burns Jr.
- Burns Jr. boarded misses on back-to-back possessions and each time scored off hook shots for a 48-38 lead and forcing a Washington timeout with 13:15 to play
- Out of the timeout Terrell Brown Jr. answered for the Huskies with a three-point play
- But the Eagles responded with five straight points as Good hit a long jumper (foot was on the line) and then buried a three following a missed jumper from Brown Jr. on the other end for a 12-point lead
- The Eagles withstood every effort the Huskies put forward to get the game down to at least a 1-2 possession game the remaining 12 minutes
- Winthrop was 7-of-10 at the line in the final minute to hold off the Huskies
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Eagles finished the game shooting 48 percent while Washington shot 42 percent
- Winthrop finished with a season-low six threes as it was 6-for-18 (33%)
- Eagles finished the game with a 20-10 advantage in points off turnovers and 16-4 in second chance points
- The glass was dominated by the Eagles 43-28 (12-3 on the offensive end)
- The Huskies entered the game shooting 30 percent from three on the season and was 7-of-13 behind the arc in the first half
- Huskies had been better from three entering the game having gone 19-of-47 (40%) in the previous two games and finished this game 11-of-28 (39%)
- Burns Jr. led all scorers with 24 while hauling in a career-high nine rebounds
- Good had 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting (3-of-5 from three) while Kelton Talford chipped in with 10 points
NOTABLES
- This was the first victory for the Eagles against a PAC-12 opponent and the first Power 5 win for head coach Mark Prosser
- The Eagles had 12 points off turnovers in the first half, more than the Eagles had in an entire 40 minutes over the previous three games
- Good's three triples in the game pushes him over 200 in his career (221)
- Burns Jr. reached 250 rebounds after his career-high nine in the game
- This win marks the 745th all-time in the history of the program
UP NEXT
Eagles finally return home after a four-game road trip when they host Hartford on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team who will host UNC Wilmington at 5 p.m.
