ROCK HILL, S.C. – Playing at home for the first time all season, the Winthrop women's basketball team was unable to get over the hump and fell to Coker.
Winthrop (0-5) | Coker (2-2)
Nov. 24, 2021 | Winthrop Coliseum
Coker 51, Winthrop 44
How it Happened
First Quarter | Coker scored the first basket of the game before
Noble Tsumas canned a pull-up jumper from the foul line. The Cobras scored once again, but
J'Mani Ingram made a layup to cut the margin to one. Coker then scored the next ten points of the quarter to take a double-digit lead. Ingram then scored twice more to cut the lead to seven at the end of the period.
Second Quarter | The Eagles scored the first five points of the second quarter to close the lead to two points, but the Cobras extended the lead back to seven just over halfway through the stanza. Winthrop went on a 7-0 run, tying the score at 20 in the process. An Ahlea Myers free throw gave Coker a slim one-point lead at the half.
Third Quarter | Winthrop used a 7-2 run out of the locker room to take a 27-23 lead less than two minutes into the second half, but Coker took the lead back with a 5-0 spurt of their own. The teams then see-sawed back and forth before
Myra Strickland's three pointer knotted the score at 32. After another layup,
Antoaneta Alexe's three gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game (five points). The Cobras then used a 6-1 run to tie the score at 38 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter | The Eagles took a four point lead with less than eight minutes to play, but it didn't last. A 10-0 run by Coker gave the momentum back to the visitors, and they scored three of the last five points to walk away with a seven point victory.
