LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite playing some of their best basketball of the season early on, Winthrop fell to nineteenth-ranked Kentucky 92-47 Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
First Quarter | Kentucky scored the first six points of the game before a short jumper from
Leonor Paisana opened the scoring for the Eagles. The Wildcats then extended the lead to 11-2, but
Jaelyn Royal's three pointer cut into the lead. Kentucky went on a 14-1 run to take a commanding 25-6 lead before consecutive threes from
Ally Ross and a
Luka Malinka layup at the buzzer kept Winthrop within 11 after one period.
Second Quarter | The Wildcats opened the second stanza on an 18-2 run, widening the lead to 43-16 before a
Sydney Hunter layup stopped the bleeding. Later, a layup from Ross cut the lead to 25 before Kentucky scored the final three points of the half, heading into the locker room with a 50-22 advantage.
Third Quarter | Royal began the second half with two free throws, but Kentucky kept the pressure up and expanded their lead to 60-24 less than three minutes into the half. Six points from
Myra Strickland got the Eagles within 64-30 before an 8-0 run from the Wildcats gave the home team a 42 point lead. Kentucky then scored seven of the last nine points to take a 77-32 lead into the final period.
Fourth Quarter | Kentucky scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to expand the lead past 50, but Winthrop steadily chipped away down the stretch. Trailing 87-34, the Eagles scored 11 of the last 16 points of the contest, culminating with a Royal three pointer and a Strickland layup.
