How it Happened
First Quarter | The Gaels took a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes before Luka Malinka's jumper ended the prolonged Winthrop drought. Iona then scored the next eight points for an 18-2 lead before a Sydney Hunter jumper with 47 seconds left ended the run. The Gaels scored the final basket of the quarter to take a 20-4 lead.

Second Quarter | J'Mani Ingram opened the second period and Sierra Hunter scored shortly thereafter as the Eagles showed some fight on the offensive end of the floor. An Ingram and-one got Winthrop into double digits on the afternoon before Iona stretched the lead out to 37-10. Myra Strickland and Tori Hall contributed a combined five points going into the half, with the deficit at 41-15.

Third Quarter | Ingram also scored the opening bucket of the third quarter just 18 seconds in and Caroline De Klauman made a jumper a short time later, cutting the margin to 43-19. Winthrop fought hard and continued to slice into the lead as Ingram's jumper made the score 43-23 just less than halfway through the stanza. The teams traded baskets before five points from Strickland cut the lead to 15. Iona scored the final basket of the quarter for a 52-35 advantage.

Fourth Quarter | The lead continued to hover around 15 in the early going of the fourth quarter. The Gaels extended the lead to 64-41 with five minutes left and Winthrop was unable to get much going on the offensive end. Hunter's free throw with 37 seconds left provided the final margin.
