Men's Soccer Hosts Presbyterian College Saturday Evening

Rock Hill, S.C.— Fresh off its first loss Winthrop men's soccer has a chance to get back in the win column when it hosts Presbyterian College Saturday evening.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE
This is the 24th meeting all-time between the Eagles and the Blue Hose. The last three meetings have gone into overtime with two ties and the Blue Hose earning a win in the other. Winthrop leads the all-time series 17-4-2, but the last win came in 2015 as it is 0-4-2 in the last six meetings. Eagles are 9-2-1 all-time against in home games vs. PC.
FOOT NOTES
  • Coming off first conference loss at Longwood, 3-2
  • Brigham Larsen scored his team-best 4th goal in the loss to Longwood as he along with Ethan Stevenson and Bryant Jimenez-Pearce are all tied for first on the team with nine points
  • All three are tied for 3rd in the league in scoring at 1.12 points per game
  • Larsen is tied for second in the Big South in goals per game (.50) and tied for third in total goals
  • Winthrop remains second in the conference in goals per game and entered the Longwood game ranked 16th nationally
  • Larsen has nine shots on the season with all four of his shots on goal finding the back of the net
  • This game marks the 928th in the history of the program with 450 wins all-time
  • Daniel Ridenhour is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach 

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Sean Green's goal on the kickoff following the Stetson goal is ranked in the Top 5 all-time at the NCAA D1 level for the fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams. In the spring of 2021, Winthrop scored 12 seconds into the game at South Carolina as Jonathan Foster netted one of the quickest goals in program history.
   
BIG SOUTH AWARDS
Ethan Stevenson – Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 4)
  • Had a hand in five of the team's seven goals on the week in two victories
  • Scored the game-winner in the win over Mercer and set up the third goal of the match
  • In the 4-0 win over Asheville he was involved with three of the goals
Brigham Larsen – Freshman of the Week (Sept. 13)
  • Scored two second half goals in the 3-1 win over Furman that included the game-winner in the 58th minute
  • Continuing to apply pressure offensively, Larsen added an insurance goal in the 89th minute

LOOKING AHEAD
Winthrop hits the road again but only an hour down the road to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
