ROCK HILL, S.C. - In another dominant effort, the Winthrop volleyball team celebrated their six seniors with an emphatic sweep of the visiting USC Upstate Spartans Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Winthrop won the first two points of the match to take the early lead and extended it to 4-1 early on. The Spartans stayed close early on eventually tying the match at 11, 16, and 17. With the set tied at 19, the Eagles took six straight points to end the set, the last coming on a
Karli Shepherd service ace.
Set 2 | The Eagles won the first three points of the second set, but once again, USC Upstate battled back into a tie at five. Later on, with the stanza tied at eight points apiece, Winthrop won six points, punctuated by a Shepherd kill, to take a 14-8 lead. The Eagles extended the lead to 19-12, but the Spartans won four consecutive points to stay within striking distance. Winthrop then won six of the final eight points, capped off by a
Lily Leistiko kill, to take a 2-0 lead.

Set 3 | Once again, Winthrop won the first four points of the set to take a commanding lead. The Spartans won a point to get within 4-1, but the Eagles won seven consecutive points to take an 11-1 lead, with another Shepherd kill providing the exclamation point. Upstate won three consecutive points to draw closer, but a 6-0 run from Winthrop ended any Spartan hopes. Winthrop then won four more points to take a 21-5 lead and won four of the next seven points for a dominant 25-8 set victory.
