HIGH POINT, N.C. - In a dominant effort, High Point cruised past Winthrop in straight sets Friday night at the Millis Center. The loss is the Eagles' fourth in their past six contests.

How it Happened
Set 1 | Winthrop won the first three points of the match and kept the lead in the early going. The Panthers tied the score at seven and then stayed close, eventually taking a 13-11 lead. The set went back and forth before the teams were tied at 17; then, High Point won four consecutive points to seize the momentum. The Eagles got within two points twice, but the Panthers took the opening stanza 25-21.
Set 2 | The Panthers won three of the first four points to open the second set. Winthrop stayed within a couple points before knotting the set at nine. Much like the first period, the teams stayed close until High Point took a 21-16 lead. The Eagles took the next three points to keep it close, but the Panthers won four of the next five points for a commanding 2-0 lead.

Set 3 | The Eagles continued to battle hard, winning three of the first four points and keeping hope alive. However, High Point tied the match at five and took off, eventually taking an 11-5 lead. The Panthers controlled the rest of the match. Winthrop stayed within 20-14, but once again, High Point was dominant down the stretch and took the match with a 25-16 victory.
