Karli Shepherd combined for 21 kills to lead Winthrop to a fifth straight victory after a 3-0 sweep of Charleston Southern, Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
Set 1 | The game was tied 3-3 when
Morgan Bossler recorded a kill to get a 3-0 spurt going for a 6-3 lead. Bossler capped off the little run with a service ace. Winthrop held at least a three point advantage until the Buccaneers pulled within two at 10-8 after a kill from Ella Lochbiler. Winthrop maintained its lead the remainder of the set with the closest moment coming at 19-18 following a Paige Regaor kill.
Olivia Blackketter clinched the set with a kill for a 25-21 win. Bossler had a team-high four kills while
Jana Owens had 11 assists and a team-high five digs.
Set 2 | Charleston Southern opened the second set with a 6-2 advantage. The Buccaneers held a multiple-point lead and led 12-8 when the Eagles made a run. An attacking error by Lochbiler started it and back-to-back kills from
Karli Shepherd tied the match and then put the Eagles in front 13-12. The Buccaneers tied the game on a Reagor kill, but Winthrop pushed its lead to 18-14 after another Bossler kill. Buccaneers were within a point at 21-20 but the Eagles held on as Shepherd and Bossler had kills on consecutive plays to win 25-21. Bossler and Shepherd each had five kills in the set while Owens had 13 assists and a team-high seven digs.
Set 3 | The set was back and forth over the first 17 points as the Eagles led 9-8. A kill by Shephered put the Eagles up by multiple points and they never looked back. Winthrop used a 9-2 run to open up the game and eventually doubled its lead at 22-11 as it went on to win 25-16. Shephered and
Nikkia Benitez each had four kills in the set.

Winthrop continues its conference slate as it begins a three-game road swing at USC Upstate on Friday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. The Eagles will then head to UNC Asheville on Saturday, Oct. 9 and finish the road trip at Campbell on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
