Rock Hill, S.C. – In a battle of the top two teams in the Big South Conference, Winthrop men's soccer fell 1-0 at home in a hard fought match to Campbell Saturday evening.

Game Recap
- Sam Jones stood tall in goal in the 9th minute as Daniel Hernandez's shot just outside the six off a cross was turned away at the near post
- In the 12th minute the Eagles had a great chance as William Cardona stole the ball, worked his way to the corner and then cut back serving a ball into the box
- The cross found Ethan Stevenson running free and his header from just in front of the spot missed just wide of the left post
- In the 20th minute Stevenson had another opportunity as he made a run at the back post and was on the other end of a Sean Green cross but the header sailed over the bar
- The game was scoreless at the break as Campbell held a 7-3 edge in shots and 4-0 in shots on goal
- In the 50th minute, Cardona won a ball in the midfield and slipped a ball through the defense as Stevenson ran on for a one-on-one and tried to slot a shot to the lower right corner but Edu Rodriguez was able to get his shin on the ball to make the save
- Seconds later Stevenson was sent free behind the Campbell defense and into the box but his cross was deflected over the end line for corner
- Winthrop was getting forward and creating chances the first 12-13 minutes of the second half
- One of the first chances for Campbell came in the 60th minute as Jake Morris took advantage of some space and blasted a shot from 30 yards out into the upper left corner for the lead
- Camels kept the Eagles from any threatening opportunities the remainder of the way despite the Eagles getting into the final third

- In a matchup of the nation's 6th-ranked and 9th-ranked offenses, the teams combined for one goal
- Campbell had scored at least three goals in each of its first four league games
- The Camels had a 14-6 advantage in shots (8-1 shots on goal) and 9-3 on corners
- Jones finished with a season-high seven saves
