Game Recap
- Charleston Southern struck first in the 20th minute off a set piece
- After earning a corner kick, Erin Rush served a ball right in front of goal where Elizabeth Olsen got a head on it to the right corner that just slipped by a defender and the post for the goal
- Over the first 19 minutes the Eagles got the ball forward but in the final third couldn't connect on crosses and were whistled four times for offside
- In the 32nd minute the Eagles earned a free kick wide to the right of the Buccaneer goal about 30 yards out
- The ball was served right in front of goal as Abbie McCrea won a header but the shot was blocked halfway to the frame
- Off the rebound, Alexandra Perez found herself with a look at an angle but pulled the shot to the left
- Eagles trailed 1-0 at the break but Haley Hocking made a last second effort to change that
- As the Eagles pressed a low clearance came out to Hocking out wide in the final seconds and she put a shot toward goal that was just over the bar and into the top net
- The Bucs took a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute as Jenea Knight scored in the run of play as she dribbled down the middle of the field and let a shot fly shy of the box that was ripped into the left corner of the goal
- In the 77th minute Jessica Gengler tried to beat the keeper with a shot from wide to her right as she curled one toward the left corner but Jenna Moran made the save
- Eagles were pressing for a goal in the 79th minute as Dee Burnett drew a free kick as she was dragged down as she approached the penalty box
- Valentina Mosquera took the free kick but her shot was high and right of the frame
- In the 83rd minute, the ball bounced out to Alexandra Perez as she cut back on her left foot at the end of the 18 and fired a low shot to the right corner that was saved by Moran
- Eagles were able to create scoring opportunities and get forward but unable to make the final connection for most of the contest
Notables
- Eagles finish with a 2-4 road mark in conference play
- Winthrop was shutout for the second straight game for the first two this season and just the second time in league play
- Senior Bella Hovis made her 50th appearance as an Eagle
- For the game the shot count was even at 6-6 but the Buccaneers had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal
- Both teams also finished with five corners each
Looking Ahead
Eagles return home for their final two regular season contests beginning with Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. It will be "Senior Day" as a special recognition will take place prior to kickoff.
