Rock Hill, S.C.— Winthrop men's soccer is back on the road at USC Upstate Wednesday evening in a matchup of two teams divided by a single point in the Big South Conference standings

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS USC UPSTATE
Winthrop and USC Upstate meet for the 19
th time. The all-times series is knotted up at 9-9 as the Spartans won the last meeting in the spring, 4-1. The last time these two teams met in Spartanburg, it turned into arguably one of the wildest games in the history of the Winthrop program. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 13:03 into the game. Upstate cut the Winthrop lead in half in the 22
nd minute and proceeded to score four consecutive goals with the fourth coming in the 67
th minute for a 4-2 lead. The Eagles pulled within a goal in the 79
th minute and then tied the game in the 83
rd minute. Winthrop wasn't done as it took the lead in the 88
th minute and then scored its fourth straight for a 6-4 lead in the 89
th minute. USC Upstate has scored four goals in the last two meetings and has three or more goals in five of the last six meetings.

- Eagles have back-to-back home shutouts in league play for the first time since 2013
- Of the team's five wins this season, four of them are by multiple goals

- That ranks second in the Big South as Campbell is first with 2.75 goals per game (5th nationally)
- This game marks the 929th in the history of the program with 451 wins all-time
- Daniel Ridenhour is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Sean Green's goal on the kickoff following the Stetson goal is ranked in the Top 5 all-time at the NCAA D1 level for the fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams. In the spring of 2021, Winthrop scored 12 seconds into the game at South Carolina as
Jonathan Foster netted one of the quickest goals in program history.
BIG SOUTH AWARDS
Ethan Stevenson – Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 4)
- Had a hand in five of the team's seven goals on the week in two victories
- Scored the game-winner in the win over Mercer and set up the third goal of the match
- In the 4-0 win over Asheville he was involved with three of the goals
Brigham Larsen – Freshman of the Week (Sept. 13 / Oct. 11)
- Scored two second half goals in the 3-1 win over Furman that included the game-winner in the 58th minute
- Continuing to apply pressure offensively, Larsen added an insurance goal in the 89th minute
- Earned Freshman of the Week honors a second time when he scored in a 3-2 loss at Longwood and then netted the game-winning goal in the 4-0 win over PC

Winthrop returns home for a matchup with league-leading Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
