Washington, D.C.— Winthrop softball fell 8-0 to Rider on the final day of the Bluff and Blue Challenge, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles had two on in the first, but were unable to drive in a run as Ansley Gilreath and Taylor Charlton flew out
- Rider took the lead in the bottom of the first as Mariglian tripled down the right field line
- Following a walk by Gonzalez, Moreno laid down a sacrifice to move the runners as Mariglian came home for a 1-0 lead
- On the play, the Eagles defense nailed Gonzalez trying to get to third on the play for the second out
- Turned out to be a big play as the next batter, Crowder, hit a solo homerun to left center
- The third inning was a good opportunity to get some runs for the Eagles as Sabrina Shroades and Tori Walker reached with no outs
- Lauren King hit into a fielder's choice as Shroades as out at third
- Then Ashley Westbrooks flied out to left and Gilreath popped up to the shortstop
- Mariglian led off the bottom of the third with a double to right center and two batters later Morena homered to right field for a 4-0 lead
- The Broncs added four more in the sixth inning highlighted by a three-run double from Zeides
EXTRA BASES
- Gilreath's hitting streak came to an end at 13 straight
- Walker extended her streak of reaching base to eight games and has hit safely in three straight

Winthrop will turn its focus to a midweek contest on Wednesday, Mar. 11 when it heads to Columbia, SC to take on nationally-ranked South Carolina.
