Lacrosse Travels To Kennesaw For Saturday Contest Against Owls

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop lacrosse will head to Kennesaw, G.A. for a 12 p.m. contest against the Kennesaw State Owls. The Eagles will be looking for their first win of 2020.

EAGLES AT A GLANCE
Winthrop is coming off an 11-8 loss to Detroit Mercy on Thursday evening. The Eagles took a commanding 7-2 lead after 30 minutes of play but a big second half from the Titans gave them their first win of the season.
 
Mia Creighton recorded three goals in the loss and currently leads the Big South with 23 scores in six games. The sophomore is averaging 3.83 goals per game – ranked 18th in the NCAA.
 
The Eagles are No. 2 in the conference in assists, averaging 5.4 per game behind 12 dimes from Bianca Tedesco. Freshman Kimora Bailey sits atop the Big South with her 27 draw controls.
 
This is the second consecutive season that Winthrop lacrosse has started the year 0-6.

SCOUTING KENNESAW STATE
The Owls enter Saturday's matchup with a 2-3 record. Kennesaw State's two wins have come against Big South schools, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian, and they've suffered losses to Vanderbilt, No. 8 Florida and most recently Mercer.
 
The Owls are led by Junior Siena Gore who has notched 20 goals in five games and is the all-time leader in goals scored. She also sits atop the ASUN with 34 draw controls.

Senior Emily Napierala has totaled 15 points this season behind a team-leading 10 assists and five goals. The team is averaging 13.2 goals per game.
 
Kennesaw State is coming off an 8-10 2019 season with a 3-3 record in conference play.  

ALL-TIME KENNESAW STATE
The Eagles and Owls have met four times prior to Saturday's contest. Winthrop currently holds a 3-1 all-time record. These teams met in Rock Hill last season and the Owls left with a 16-11 victory. The Owls open the 2020 season with a seven-game home stand.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will host Furman at Eagle Field on Friday, March 13 at 3 p.m. These teams have only met once in history, with Winthrop winning the contest 15-5 at home.
