WHAT HAPPENED
  • Eagles had a good chance to grab an early lead in the top of the second as Ansley Gilreath led off with a single to center and two batters later Logan Webb singled
  • After Aisha Weixlmann popped up to the pitcher, A.G. Gardner hit a grounder to third that was fielded by Kendyl McKeough as she touched third base for the force out to end the threat
  • Eastern Illinois struck first in the bottom of the third as Kayla Bear led off with a bunt single and then stole second
  • Hannah Craves stood in and doubled to left for a 1-0 lead
  • Mia Davis followed with a double to right center to double its lead at 2-0
  • Haley Mitchell made it 3-0 as she followed Davis' double with a single to center
  • Winthrop had a good chance to get back into the game in the fifth inning as Webb doubled to lead off
  • Chloe Baker singled to right to put runners at the corners and no outs
  • After Gardner struck out, Makayla Cyzick was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Tori Walker
  • Walker delivered as she ripped a shot up the middle that was kept in the infield by shortstop Megan Burton, which may have prevented more than one run crossing the plate
  • Taylor Charlton came in to pinch-hit as she laced a ball but right at the center fielder, who then threw home quickly to nail Baker at the plate for the inning-ending double play
  • Bella Roy tossed 4.0 innings of relief allowing just three hits, walking two and striking out eight
EXTRA BASES

  • Westbrooks extended her hitting streak to five games to start the season
  • Gilreath's single in the second pushed her hitting streak to four straight
