Rock Hill, S.C.—After dropping the first game of the day 6-1 to Eastern Kentucky the Winthrop softball team bounced back to earn a 4-2 win over Virginia, Friday evening at the Winthrop Softball Tournament presented by La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Rock Hill.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Eastern Kentucky
- Mollie Paulick was in control most of the night inside the circle for the Colonels
- It wasn't until the seventh the Eagles finally broke through as Isabella Clark delivered an RBI pinch-hit single, scoring Dallas Singleton
- EKU put a run up in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead
- Miranda was the second batter of the game and she homered to left for a 1-0 lead
- Paulick helped herself by leading off the second with a home run to right center
- A second home run from Miranda made it 5-0 as she hit a two-run bomb to center
WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Virginia
- The two teams combined for six runs with five of those coming in the first inning
- The Cavaliers took a 2-0 lead as Savana Avilla led off the game with a single followed by a blast to center from Tori Gilbert
- Tori Walker hammered a ball to left for a leadoff homerun to cut the deficit in half
- Ansley Gilreath drew a two-out walk and then Taylor Charlton stepped up and hit a two-run shot to left center for a 3-2 advantage
- UVA threatened in the fourth, sacrificing runners to second and third but Watson got a fly out and then struck out Madi Wilson for the third out
- In the bottom of the fifth Walker took a 1-2 pitch to left as she cracked another solo shot for a 4-2 lead
- Cavaliers had a good chance in the sixth as Arizona Ritchie got things started with a two out single
- UVA loaded the bases but Watson ended the threat as she froze Abigail Barber for the third out
EXTRA BASES
- The win over Virginia ended a four-game losing streak
- Watson earned her 25th career win in the circle as she's now thrown three complete games in three starts this season
- Clark recorded her first collegiate hit and RBI
- Charlton now leads the team in RBI with six in seven games played (5 starts)

Eagles are back at it Saturday as they'll take on Georgetown at 3 p.m. and Holy Cross at 5:30 p.m. on Terry Field for day two of the tournament.
