Rock Hill, S.C.—Winthrop softball earned wins over Georgetown and Holy Cross Saturday evening at the Winthrop Softball Tournament presented by La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Rock Hill. The Eagles opened the day with a 3-1 win over Georgetown while defeating Holy Cross 8-0 in five innings to end the day.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Georgetown
- Hoyas took an early lead as S. Jones led off the second inning with a solo homerun to left center
- Eagles grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as Aisha Weixlmann singled to short to lead off the inning
- Following back-to-back outs Ashton Vanhouse walked to put two runners on
- Ashley Westbrooks fouled off three straight pitches before doubled to right center, scoring both runners for the lead
- Lauren King gave Winthrop a 3-1 lead in the 4th with a single up the middle, scoring pinch-runner Dallas Singleton from second
- Weixlmann turned in a career-best performance in her short tenure with the Eagles, allowing one run on eight hits with no walks and a career-high eight strikeouts in a complete game performance
WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Holy Cross
- Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second thanks to an RBI double from Makayla Cyzick
- Winthrop pushed its lead to 3-1 in the third as Westbrooks crushed a two-run bomb to left
- In the fourth the Eagles tacked on five more runs for an 8-0 lead
- Cyzick, Chloe Baker and Vanhouse all walked to start off the inning
- Tori Walker stepped up and ripped a single to right, scoring two runs for a 5-1 lead
- Two batters later, Westbrooks stood in with runners at second and third and doubled to left for a 7-0 lead
- An Ansley Gilreath double to right center made it 8-0 as Westbrooks scored from second
- Madyson Watson was practically in cruise control as she tied her career-high of nine strikeouts, which she accomplished in 5.0 innings
- Watson improved to 3-1 on the year after allowing three hits and walking none
EXTRA BASES
- Westbrooks extended her streak of reaching base to nine games
- Westbrooks also recorded six RBI on the day to surpass 100 RBI in her career and now has 101
- She becomes the 10th player in program history to reach 100 RBI in a career and is two out of 9th
- Lauren King had her first collegiate hit with the RBI base knock in the first game and finished the day 2-for-6 with a run and RBI
- Winthrop has now won three straight after dropping four in a row
