Rock Hill, S.C.— Winthrop softball fell 11-7 to Towson Sunday afternoon at the Winthrop Softball Tournament presented by La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Rock Hill. Eagles finished the weekend 3-2 and are now 5-5 on the year.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Towson struck first with three runs in the top of the second inning thanks to a Swistock two-run double and an RBI single from Grace Houmis
- Winthrop came right back to make it one run game as Ansley Gilreath started off the inning with a single to center
- Two batters later Madyson Watson walked but Makayla Cyzick hit into a fielder's choice that led to Gilreath out at third on the force out
- Ellie Marks then walked to load the bases as the Eagles went to the bench for Sabrina Shroades to pinch-hit
- Shroades took a 2-1 pitch over the left fielder to the wall for a double that scored Watson and Cyzick
- Taylor Charlton tied the game in the third when she singled home Westbrooks, who had walked with one out and moved to second on a Gilreath single
- The Tigers push three across in the top of the fourth as Swistock drew a two out walk to keep the inning alive followed by a Houmis single to left
- Kidwiler followed with a triple down the right field line scoring two and then Mounie doubled to right center for the 6-3 lead
- Winthrop pulled within a run after the bottom of the fourth as Tori Walker hit a two-run homerun to center with two outs
- Towson scored two more in the fifth only to have Winthrop match that with two in the bottom half to keep it a one run game
- Charlton provided the offense in the fifth with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth
- Winthrop just couldn't cool off the Towson bats as it added one more in the sixth and two more in the seventh
EXTRA BASES
- Westbrooks extended her streak of reaching base to 10 games drawing two walks
- Towson was 8-of-15 with two outs in the game while the Eagles were just 2-for-9
- Both teams were good with runners in scoring position as Towson was 8-for-19 (.421) and Eagles were 3-for-6 (.500)
- Charlton has multiple homeruns in a single-season for the first time in her collegiate career and is already more than halfway to her career-high in RBI for a season (15 last year) with nine
- This weekend Charlton led the Eagles in batting at .462 as she had two runs, two homeruns and five RBI
