Greensboro, N.C.— Behind a seven-run first inning, the Winthrop softball team earned an 11-5 road win at North Carolina A&T, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference midweek action.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Tori Walker began the game getting hit on the third pitch to start things off for the Eagles
- Sabrina Shroades and Ashley Westbrooks followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases
- Ansley Gilreath stepped up and singled down the left field line scoring Walker and Shroades
- Gilreath and Westbrooks moved over to second and third on a wild pitch and then both scored on a fielding error by the shortstop off the bat of Lauren King
- Aisha Weixlmann walked on four straight pitches and then Ellie Marks walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-0
- The Eagles went through the order as Walker came back to the plate with the bases loaded and was hit for a second time, scoring King
- Shroades got her second hit of the inning with an RBI single to center for a 7-0 lead
- Winthrop added two more runs in the third inning as it loaded the bases with one out
- After Walker popped up to short to start the inning, Shroades was hit by a pitch followed by back-to-back walks from Westbrooks and Gilreath to load the bases
- Madyson Watson's sacrifice fly to center scored Shroades and then Logan Webb singled to center for a 9-0 advantage
- With two outs in the fourth, Walker doubled to center and then scored on a Shroades single through the left side
- Shroades later scored on a fielding error for an 11-0 lead
- The Aggies scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single from D. Parker
- Then in the fifth the Aggies added three more runs highlighted by a two-run triple to right from T. Cole
- Weixlmann earned the win in the circle tossing 5.0 innings allowing one hit, walking one and striking out five
EXTRA BASES
- Eagles have now won four of their last five games
- Walker stretched her streak of reaching base to 11 games while Westbrooks and Taylor Charlton have the next best streak at five consecutive games
- In the game the Eagles were 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position (.417 average)
- The Eagles pushed across 11 runs in the game with just one extra base hit
- The two teams combined for 17 hits and only two of them were for extra bases
- Winthrop scored a season-high 11 runs and also left a season-high 11 runners on base
- Shroades had a career-high two RBI and three runs scored while tying her career-best of three hits
- Gilreath finished with her team-best fourth multi-hit game
