ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop baseball will welcome Kent State to the Winthrop Ballpark this weekend for the Coca Cola Series, beginning with a 4 p.m. series opener on Friday afternoon. Game two is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, and the series finale between the Eagles and Golden Flashes comes at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Winthrop is 8-0 on the season, the program's best start to a season since 1987 when the Eagles won the first 19 games of the year. Winthrop defeated Davidson 10-3 on the road Wednesday night, scoring five ninth-inning runs to put away the Wildcats. Kent State enters the weekend 4-3 in their first seven games, most recently winning two of three games in a road series against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Florida, winning the final two games of the series by scores of 9-2 and 4-0.
Kent State leads the all time series, 21-13 in 34 meetings. The last meeting between the two schools came March 2-4, 2018 at the Winthrop Ballpark, when Winthrop won the series opener 8-2 and Kent State took the final two games by scores of 9-1 and 7-5.
