Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C.— Winthrop softball split on day two of the Green & White Classic with a 7-1 win over Delaware State and a 10-2 loss in six innings to Charlotte.

WHAT HAPPENED (vs. Delaware State)
- The Hornets grabbed the lead in the second inning as Jaeyln Gorham drew a one out walk to get things started
- Jade King followed with a single through the hole at short and two batters later Jasmine Melgoza's single drove in Gorham for a 1-0 lead
- Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the second as Logan Webb homered to left with one out
- Madyson Watson walked with one away in the fourth and moved to second on a wild pitch
- Webb stepped in and doubled down the left field line, scoring Watson for 2-1 lead
- Lauren King came to the plate with a chance to add to the lead and hit a two-run blast to left for a 4-1 lead
- Eagles put three more on the board in the sixth inning highlighted by a pinch-hit RBI double from Taylor Charlton and RBI single by Sabrina Shroades
- Aisha Weixlmann tossed a complete game for the Eagles allowing the one run on six hits with two walks and matching her career-high of eight strikeouts
WHAT HAPPENED (vs. Charlotte)
- Charlotte jumped on the Eagles in the first inning for a 2-0 lead behind an RBI double by Bailey Vannoy and she eventually scored on a wild pitch
- Winthrop came right back to tie the game in the top of the second as Watson was hit by a pitch and King followed with a double to left to put two runners in scoring position
- Makayla Cyzick scored Watson on a ground out to short and A.G. Gardner tied the game with a double to left, scoring King
- Watson ran into some trouble in the bottom of the second as Charlotte scored four runs to get the lead back
- The runs came with two outs after Watson got a pop out and strikeout
- Cori Henderson doubled to left center to get it started as the 49ers loaded the bases
- After Charlotte took a 3-2 lead on a bases loaded walk by Imani Rochelle, Riley Krueger delivered a bases clearing double
- Charlotte added four more runs over the final three innings to seal the win
EXTRA BASES
- Loss to Charlotte ended the Winthrop win streak at three straight
- Charlotte's top four batters in the lineup combined to go 9-for-12 at the plate with eight runs and eight RBI
- Tori Walker extended her streak of reaching base to 12 games against the Hornets, but the streak ended against Charlotte
- Gilreath extended her team-leading hit streak to six games while Shroades has now hit safely in five straight
- Shroades had an RBI against the Hornets, which was the fourth straight game driving in a run as she now has eight RBI in the last five games
- Shroades has four straight games with multiple hits
