Lacrosse Falls To Fresno State, 17-12

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Winthrop lacrosse fell to Fresno State at Eagle Field Monday afternoon, 17-12. Winthrop is now 0-2 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State struck first with a goal at the 28:22 mark but Mia Creighton responded less than a minute later with a goal of her own. The Eagles and Bulldogs exchanged goals for the entire half, with Fresno State's Kayla Galet netting a goal with two seconds remaining in the half to tie the game at eight. Bianca Tedesco scored three of her four games in the first 30 minutes of action.
 
Fresno State netted six unanswered goals to open the half and take a 14-8 lead over the Eagles. At the 17:52 mark, Lauren Asher scored her third goal of the game to kick off a scoring run for the home team. Winthrop cut into the Bulldogs lead with four unanswered goals of its own, making the score 14-12 in favor of Fresno State. The Bulldogs went on to score three more unanswered goals in the remaining eight minutes of the game to win, 17-12.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Bianca Tedesco led the Eagles with four goals and two assists, while Lauren Asher notched three goals and an assist of her own.
  • Winthrop finished with 22 shots, placing 17 on goal, while the Bulldogs attempted 36 shots, placing 28 of those on goal.
  • Fresno State won 18 draw controls, Winthrop won 13. Freshman Kimora Bailey was credited with eight of the 13.  
  • Both teams finished the contest 2-6 on free position shots.
 
UP NEXT
Winthrop will be looking for its first win of the season when it hosts Cal at 12 p.m. on February 23. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
