Asheville, N.C. – Winthrop women's basketball fell to UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon, 65-55. The Eagles have not beat the Bulldogs since the 2014-15 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The contest was kept close through the first 20 minutes of play. A 7-2 run for the Bulldogs gave the home team a seven point advantage at the end of the first quarter, while a 9-2 run to close out the second half cut Ashville's double-digit lead to just four points at halftime. A tough third quarter offensively hurt the Eagles comeback attempt. They were held to just nine points in the third quarter and despite outscoring the Bulldogs 20-17 in the final quarter, they were unable to come back. The Eagles are now 10-13 overall, with a 7-7 conference record.
