Rock Hill, S.C. – The Eagles erased a 19-point deficient but just couldn't complete the comeback over the USC Upstate Spartans on Friday night at the Coliseum, falling 56-49. Winthrop falls to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in Big South play.

• Maleeah Langstaff opened the scoring for Winthrop at the 9:06 mark to tie the game at two each
• That basket was followed by a 11-0 run for Upstate

QUARTER 2

• Madison Ervin scored Winthrop's only second-quarter basket at the 7:20 mark
• Upstate closed the half with a 10-0 run to lead by 15
• Half of Winthrop's 16 turnovers were committed in the second quarter alone, resulting in five points for the Spartans

QUARTER 3

• The Spartans took their largest lead of the night, 19 points, off a shot by McKinley Brooks-Sumpter
• Winthrop heated up as the third quarter came to a close, going on a 15-3 run and cutting Upstate's lead to six points with 10 minutes to play

QUARTER 4

• The Eagles opened the last quarter of play with a 10-2 run
• Winthrop tied the game with 7:29 remaining off a clutch 3-pointer at the hands of Tori Hall
• The Spartans would pull away in the last two and a half minutes, holding Winthrop and going on a 9-0 run
• Denijsha Wilson would score Upstate's last five points of the contest
• The fourth quarter saw two lead changes and three ties

• J'mani Ingram led the Eagles with 11 points, a career high for the freshman
• Myra Strickland led the team with 10 rebounds and 6 assists, both career bests
