Winthrop Defeats Presbyterian College In Four Sets

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball opened conference play with a four-set win over Presbyterian College (24-26, 25-12, 25-22, 26-24) and kept their perfect home win streak (6-0). Morgan Bossler gave another stellar performance finishing with 14 kills and seven blocks to lead the Eagles.

How it Happened
The first set was a back and forth affair with no team holding a secure lead. The Eagles reached set point 24-23, but lost three straight rallies to give PC a one set lead. Hannah Lackey led the Eagles with 5 digs in the opening set.

The Eagles took the set break to regroup and jumped out to 5-0 lead with two kills from Kia Benitez to start the second set. PC got their shots in but the Eagles kept control, taking the second set with authority, 25-12.

Neither team could pull away in the second set, notching the score 22-22. The Eagles capitalized on the two kills of Jace Kleffner to put together a 3-0 run to close out the set and take the 2-1 match lead.

Winthrop struggled to put the Blue Hose away in the final set; there were 12 ties and five lead changes. The Eagles managed to take a three-point lead, but allowed the Blue Hose to come back and regain the lead. An ace serve from Savannah Roper off the bench brought the Eagles to their first match point of the night. A controversial call brought PC to set point but a PC error and a kill by Kleffner flipped the score, 25-24. A Siani Yamaguchi, Bossler blocked secured the match 3-1 for Winthrop.
