Eagles Fall To Runnin' Bulldogs On The Road

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Winthrop got a late goal from Gabi Hull against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough to overcome three pervious Runnin' Bulldogs goals at Greene-Harbison Stadium as Gardner-Webb took the match 3-1 to improve to 2-7-1 on the season and 1-0 in Big South play. The Eagles have came up just short in their last two conference matches and now sit 2-5 on the season.

Gardner-Webb got off to a lightning quick start, scoring in just the second minute of the match when MaddieTurlingtonscored her third goal of the season off a thrown in assist from Kylie Ameres. The two sides would play scoreless ball until just before halftime, when in the 45thminute StinaKleppeturned in her sixth of the season while being assisted by AlliVarga.

After halftime, Gardner-Webb put the game out of reach in the 74thminute by netting their third goal of the evening to take a 3-0 lead when JadaNewton scored from the edge of the box for her fourth goal of the season, with the assist coming from MaddieTurlington.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 78thminute when Gabi Hull netted her second goal of the season, a strike to the upper 90 from just outside the 18 yard box. The Hull goal made it a 3-1 contest, a score that would hold until the final horn.

NOTABLES

- Winthrop came up two goals short despite outshooting the Runnin' Bulldogs 20-19 for the match (9 on goal for the Eagles compared to 8 for Gardner-Webb).
