Game Recap
  • Eagles nearly opened the scoring in the 7th minute as a ball was served into the box and Daniel Vicaria Barker just missed with a header inches outside the right post
  • In the 18th minute Jordan Walshaw had a good opportunity as he started wide and dribbled quickly into the box firing a shot with lots of pace that was saved by a diving Isaac Alstrom
  • The ball came off Alstrom's hands and into the opposite side of the box as Leif Estevez collected the rebound, fired a shot toward goal but it was deflected just wide and over the end line for a corner
  • Walshaw tested Alstrom a few more times midway through the half but both shots were saved to keep the game scoreless
  • Less than five minutes from entering the game as a sub, Cameron Thayer scored his first collegiate goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute
  • Estevez split the defense with a pass that set up Ben Goodman in the box wide of the goal as he played a ball on the ground in front and Thayer hit it first time into the open net
  • The Cougars responded two minutes later as Cole Gulledge headed home a Mads Myllerup corner kick, straight on from goal about 10 yards out
  • Winthrop snuck in another goal before half for the lead at the break as Jonathan Foster slipped a pass behind the defense as Goodman ran on and this time he took the shot and buried it into the far lower right corner
  • In the 57th minute the Eagles had a good chance for a 3-1 lead when Estevez played a ball down the right wing into space as Walshaw ran on to the ball, dribbling into the box and laying a pass in front as Goodman was trailing
  • Goodman received the pass, took a touch and tried to slip a shot past Alstrom but he smothered the ball before he could pull the trigger
  • The Cougars tied the match in the 68th minute as Myllerup played a long ball into the box that Tucker Heffron headed in front of goal and Rio Murray headed into the bottom right corner
  • Estevez nearly gave the Eagles the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation as he had a go from 25 yards out that froze Alstrom, but just missed the top corner
  • In double-overtime, Foster nearly ended the game as he took a pass at the back post from Walshaw as he struck the ball in the air first time but it pinged off the crossbar and was cleared
  • A minute and a half later Thayer won the game for the Eagles as Walshaw whipped a cross into the near post as Thayer ran on and redirected the ball into the net off his head for the golden goal
