SERIES HISTORY VERSUS STETSON
Eagles and Hatters meet for the 7th time as the Eagles have won two of the last three meetings. The two teams last met in 2013 in Macon, GA at the Mercer Classic. Winthrop won the meeting 5-2 behind three first half goals and five different players getting in on the scoring. It's just the third time the team's meet on Eagle Field as the first meeting came in 1994 in Rock Hill with the Eagles prevailing 2-1. The only other meeting on Eagle Field came in 2004 as the Eagles lost 4-1. In all six meetings, both team's have scored at least one goal. Winthrop has 17 goals in six meetings while Stetson has scored 11 goals.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Opened the season 2-0 with two good wins, defeating the College of Charleston 1-0 and UNC Wilmington 2-1. Have lost two straight with 2-0 losses at home against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Penn State. Chris DeGance, Franck Kouentchi, and Ian McCauley each have one goal on the year. Freshman Lute Lillo-Portero has been in goal for all 360 minutes and has eight saves to go along with a 1.25 goals against average.

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES
After scoring five goals in the first two games the Eagles have been shutout in back-to-back games. Looking to end a three-game losing streak after falling 1-0 at Wofford College and 3-0 to Furman this past weekend. Senior Jordan Walshaw leads the team in scoring with five points. Four additional players have scored this season for the Eagles (Jonathan Foster, Jogvan Jacobsen, Marc Carreras and Daniel Vicaria Barker). Chandler Gaunce started the season in goal and is 1-0 in two starts but hasn't returned since the end of the first half at Mount St. Mary's due to injury. Aidan McCormick has started the last two games and has made 14 saves (4.7 per game).

10th YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 2009 BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
This season the Eagles celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2009 Big South Conference Championship team.
The Eagles were coming off a championship in 2008 as it lost some of the greatest players in the history of the program. The Eagles were still loaded with talent and after dropping the opener 3-1 at North Carolina State, they won five in a row. Heading into the Big South Tournament the Eagles were struggling, having lost three straight (outscored 10-1). Winthrop, seeded fourth, defeated Gardner-Webb in penalties to advance to the semifinals and then advanced to the championship after defeating top-seeded Coastal Carolina 4-2 in penalties. The Eagles went on to defeat Liberty 2-1 in the championship game, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. Winthrop went on to lose 3-2 at 20th-ranked Duke in the opening round of the NCAA College Cup.

BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
The Eagles were voted 7th in the 2019 Big South Conference preseason poll. Winthrop returns nine players that started at least eight games from a team that was 3-5 in the league last year. The Eagles finished in 7th last season, a point out of tying Longwood and USC Upstate for 6th. Defending regular-season champion High Point is the preseason favorite while Radford and Campbell tied for 2nd in the poll.

WHAT'S AHEAD
With the Eagles battling some injuries, they will welcome a six-day break between games. Following the game with Stetson, the Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Atlanta, GA to take on Georgia State at 7 p.m.
