ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop women's soccer mounted a late comeback effort against the Wofford Terriers on Friday night at Eagle Field, but the effort came up short as Wofford won the match 3-2 to hand Winthrop (0-2) their second straight home loss to open the 2019 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior forward
Greta Conboy opened the scoring with a goal in the eleventh minute of the match, her first of the 2019 season. The goal was assisted by fellow senior forward Keely Leising.
- Wofford scored three straight goals to take the lead and then extend that lead to 3-1, with two first half goals coming in the 28th and 45th minutes, capped off by a goal via penalty kick in the 67th minute. Wofford's Katie Gilligan scored the first and final goal for the Terriers with the middle goal coming from Paige Miller.
- The Eagles answered back in the 78th minute with a goal from senior forward
Natalie Royaards, with assists credited to both junior forward
Katie Colwick and senior forward Keely Leising.
- Winthrop cut the game to 3-2 but could not push across the equalizer, despite outshooting Wofford 17-13 for the game and having three corner kick opportunities to none for the Terriers.

Spencer Smith went to his bench often on Saturday night, as 24 different Eagles saw action in the contest.
- Despite losing the contest, the Eagles put nine shots on goal compared to six for Wofford.
- Wofford goalkeeper Maria Mon saved seven of Winthrop's nine shots on goal.
