ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop and Campbell entered the weekend separated by 1.5 games at the top of the Big South standings, and following Friday's action the conference foes remain locked in the same place after a hard-fought split Friday, with Winthrop taking the first game 5-4 with Campbell rallying in game two for a 5-4 win of their own. GAME ONE - HOW IT HAPPENED

Zach Peek gave the Eagles six strong innings in what could be his final start at the Winthrop Ballpark, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out five and walking three. Peek exited in a 4-4 game early in the seventh inning, thus getting a no decision ing ame one. Peek was followed on the mound by
Dalton Whitaker, who logged 1.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits, striking out two and walking one. With the Eagles scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh, Whitaker was game one's winning pitcher, moving the graduate student's record to 3-1 on the season in what proved to be his final appearance at the Winthrop Ballpark.
Colten Rendon then came on in the ninth inning and closed the door on the Camels to earn his sixth save of the season, a four-out save that began with a crucial strikeout to end the threat in the top of the eighth inning.
- Winthrop scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to get the offense started.
Matthew Mulkey singled to right field with nobody out and advanced on a fielder's choice by
Jake Sullivan. After getting to third on a groundout to the first baseman, Mulkey came in to score on a
Tyler Baker RBI single to right field to get the Eagles on the board. Sullivan came in to score on the next play when
Scout McFalls singled to left field to put Winthrop up 2-0.
- In the bottom of the third inning, Winthrop added two more runs to retake the lead at 4-3 when Campbell scored three times in the top half.
Jake Sullivan came up with runners on first and third with one out and doubled to right field to score both
Hunter Lipscomb and
Matthew Mulkey, who scored from first on the play.
- Campbell tied the game at 4 in the top of the fifth inning and the game remained there until the bottom of the seventh when
Alex Raines clubbed his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning run.

GAME TWO - HOW IT HAPPENED

Nate Pawelczyk battled in his final career start at the Winthrop Ballpark. The senior right-hander battled out 6.2 innings, spreading out eight hits and allowing five runs (all earned) striking out three and walking four. Pawelczyk was the tough-luck losing pitcher in the nightcap, dropping to 8-4 on the season.
Jason Crumley went the rest of the way in game two for the Eagles, logging 2.1 innings of shoutout ball, allowing two hits. Crumley did not strike out or walk a batter.
- The Eagles scored two of their four runs in the bottom of the first inning after Campbell plated one in the top half.
Scout McFalls doubled down the left field line to lead off the game for Winthrop and he was immediately brought to the plate on an
Alex Raines single to right field to tie the game at one.
Spencer Yankle was the second run of the inning for the Eagles - reaching base on a walk, advancing to second on a single by
Hunter Lipscomb, getting to third on a wild pitch, and finally scoring on a
Grant English RBI single to right field to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
- Winthrop's final two runs of game two came in the bottom of the third inning when
Brandon Fite knocked a 2-RBI single into right field, scoring
Hunter Lipscomb and
Matthew Mulkey on the play to give the Eagles what was then a 4-2 lead. Campbell then scored two runs in the top of the fourth and another run in the top of the fifth to take the lead, and held the Eagle offense at bay in the late innings (including Winthrop leaving the bases loaded to end the ballgame) to win game two and split the doubleheader.
GAME TWO - NOTABLES

Scout McFalls went 3-5 in the leadoff spot for the Eagles in game two, scoring a run as well.
Alex Raines went 2-5 in the two-hole for the Eagles.
