GREENSBORO, NC— Keleigh Romine and
Madyson Watson led the way in a three-run seventh inning to help Winthrop softball to a 6-3 comeback win at UNC Greensboro, Wednesday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles struck in the first inning as Ashley Westbrooks drew a two out walk and then scored on a double from Keleigh Romine
- In the second inning the Eagles loaded the bases with no outs after back-to-back singles from Madyson Watson and Tori Walker followed by Ansley Gilreath reaching on an error on a sacrifice attempt
- Taylor Charlton grounded to third as a throw home got Watson on the force out but then Walker came around to score as a throw to third base in an attempt to get two outs on the play was off the mark and Walker made it a 2-0 lead
- Eagles were unable to add more runs to their lead as Gilreath was thrown out at home on an infield grounder and Morgan Lowers grounded out to second to end the threat
- In the bottom of the fourth the Spartans loaded the bases on Kiley Majette drawing two walks and a single
- Majette got a grounder with the bases loaded but made an errant throw that allowed two runs to score and tie the game at 2-2
- Watson came back into the circle to record back-to-back outs before hitting a batter to load the bases
- Watson then walked Marisa Sholtes to give the Spartans a 3-2 lead
- In the top of the seventh the Eagles got back-to-back one out singles by Blake Wallert and Lowers
- Westbrooks grounded out to short for the second out as the runners advance to second and third
- Romine stepped in and singled through the hole at short, which scored both runners for a 4-3 lead
- Brooke Ellison followed with a double down the right field line to put runners at second and third
- Watson provided some insurance with a two-run double down the left field line and a 6-3 lead
- Watson earned her 13th win on the year as she's now 13-4 after allowing no runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- The Eagles have now won three straight games and three of their last four on the road
- Westbrooks reached base for a 22nd straight game
- This was the second time this season the Eagles scored at least four runs in the top of the seventh to earn a win as they scored five in the 13-9 win over Buffalo
- Romine has now driven in a run in five of the last seven games and is riding a five-game hitting streak
- Eagles pitching held the UNCG offense in check, which entered the contest ranked 39th in the country in homeruns per game as all three hits allowed were singles
