Lacrosse Returns Home Saturday To Host Gardner-Webb Looking For Fourth Straight Victory

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team continues Big South play at home Saturday afternoon, hosting the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at 1 p.m. at Eagle Field.

WINTHROP AT A GLANCE
Winthrop is coming off a thrilling overtime victory over Campbell Wednesday afternoon.  Freshman Mia Creighton scored the game-winner on 90 seconds into the overtime period.  Creighton finished with four goals while McKenna Blick added four goals and one assist.  In goal, senior Alaina Girani recorded a season-high 19 saves in the victory.

SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
Gardner-Webb has already set a program record for wins in a season as the Bulldogs sit at 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the Big South.  The Bulldogs fell Wednesday at High Point and dropped a one-goal decision to Radford last Saturday.  Abby Hanscom and Jada Preston have led Gardner-Webb offensively this season.  Hanscom has totaled 41 points on 30 goals and 11 assists while Preston's 40 points have come on 19 goals and 21 assists.  Katie Sylvester has played the majority of minutes in goal, registering all but one decision.  She has allowed just over 16 goals per game while making 38 percent of her saves.

ALL-TIME AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Gardner-Webb entered Division I lacrosse play in 2015 and the Eagles are 4-0 against the Bulldogs in that time.  Winthrop has won all four contests by an average of 15.5 goals.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop will round out its road contests next week as the Eagles head to Presbyterian on Wednesday before making a trip to Longwood on Saturday.
