Box Score RALEIGH, NC— Winthrop softball suffered a 4-2 loss at North Carolina State, Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Wolfpack took advantage of a Winthrop fielding error to grab a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first
- Eagles came right back to tie the game in the second as Brooke Ellison was hit with one out
- Taylor Charlton followed by drawing a walk to put runners at first and second
- Blake Wallert took a 1-2 pitch to left center for a double that plated Ellison from second base
- Eagles had a good chance to grab the lead in the fourth inning as Ellison led off with a double and then stole third
- But Sydney Nester got back-to-back pop outs and then Sabrina Shroades lined out to center to end the threat
- In the bottom half of the fourth inning the Wolfpack did take a 2-1 lead thanks to three singles
- Skylar Johnston and Randi Farricker lead off the inning with back-to-back singles and were then sacrificed over
- After Kiley Majette got Chandley Garner to pop up, Natalie Jones singled through the left side for the lead
- Two straight singles and a double steal to start off the fifth inning set up the Wolfpack to take a 3-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Logan Morris
- A two-out double by Farricker added another run in the fifth for a 4-1 lead
- Wallert reached on an error to start the 7th and moved to second when Majette was hit by a pitch
- After Tori Walker flied out for the second out, Morgan Lowers struck out but the pitch was in the dirt as she reached first safely and Wallert came around from second to score
EXTRA BASES
- Wallert's double in the second inning extended her hitting streak to six games, her second hitting streak of at least six games this season
- Ellison extended her hitting streak to five games, which ties her career-best
- Keleigh Romine reached base for a ninth straight game while Wallert has now reached in eight straight games

Winthrop remains on the road but gets back to conference action as it heads to Radford, VA for a weekend series with Radford beginning Friday, Apr. 5 at 5 p.m.
