CLINTON, S.C. – Winthrop men's tennis (7-12, 2-6 Big South) fell short in its final regular season match on the road at Presbyterian College (13-13, 5-3 Big South) as the Blue Hose won 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Eagles started with momentum, taking the opening doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Gabriel Dias and Aditya Gokhale downed Max Benson and Jaime Castillo-Lopez 6-2 to lead off Winthrop. PC answered with a 6-3 win at court one as Daniel Stenger and Oscar Alvarez topped Leandros Pappayiannis and Connor Williamson in the duo's first match together this season. The Eagles clinched the point with a win at the third position as Diego Quiroz and Lluis Miralles won their first match as a duo, 6-4 over Alberto Conde and Vance Mercer.

-PC would earn three-consecutive points in singles play, earning wins on courts six, four and two, respectively to regain an advantage on their home courts. Jonathan Bedard topped Alberto Tinagli 6-2, 6-4, Castillo-Lopez defeated Gokhale as they rematched in singles play and Benson fought off Williamson 7-5, 6-2 at court two.

-Pappayiannis posted his first win of the season in his fifth time in the lineup, downing Conde in straight-sets 6-2, 6-4 to pull the team score back to 3-2.

-Quiroz evened the board at 3-3 with a win at No. 1, taking a set tiebreak for the first set and going on for a 6-3 second set and match win.

-The team decision would come down to the outcome at No. 3 as Winthrop's Dias faced PC's Alvarez. The two battled in a lengthy first set, with Alvarez coming out with a 7-5 win and outlasting Dias in the second set for a 6-2 victory and the team win.
