RADFORD, Va. – Seventh-seeded Winthrop men's tennis (7-13, 2-6 Big South) fell in the quarterfinal round at the Big South Conference Championship Thursday afternoon as No. 2 Campbell (15-5, 7-1) came out with a 4-1 victory to advance.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-The Eagles battled immediately, coming from behind to win the opening doubles point. The Camels' Dustin Werner and Raphael Calzi downed Gabriel Dias and Aditya Gokhale at the first position and the Eagles found themselves trailing on all three courts. Both remaining Winthop duos would come back to win their courts in tiebreakers as Lluis Miralles and Diego Quiroz came on No. 2 against Bastien Huon and Ondrej Labik, followed by Connor Williamson and Leandros Pappayiannis winning at court three.
 
-Campbell did not show any discouragement as the squads began singles play. In a contest of two players hitting the court for the first time in singles play, the Camels' Ted Williams topped Alberto Tinagli 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 position to even the score at 1-1.
 
-In a regular season redemption, Werner topped Quiroz at the first position, 7-5, 6-1. Quiroz snagged the two opponents' regular season contest, a 6-3, 3-6. 7-6 win.
 
-The Camels clinched the team victory with two additional straight-sets victories, taking courts three and four over Connor Williamson and Leandros Pappayiannis.  
 
NOTABLES
-The Eagles have sent 12 different doubles combinations to the courts this season looking for success with the opening point. Williamson and Pappayiannis posted their first win together in today's match in just their second outing. Today's match was also just the second together for Miralles and Quiroz, who also won their court.
