Creighton's Seven Goals Leads Winthrop Past Presbyterian 17-4 Wednesday

Box Score CLINTON, SC – Freshman Mia Creighton scored a career-high seven goals Wednesday afternoon to lead the Winthrop lacrosse team to a big 17-4 victory over Presbyterian.

Winthrop remained unbeaten in the Big South at 3-0 with the win and extended its winning streak to five games, improving its record to 6-8 overall.  Presbyterian fell to 0-4 in conference and 1-13 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The offense for the Eagles took a little while to get going but ended up putting 11 goals on the board in the first half.  Creighton scored three of Winthrop's first four goals and the Eagles went up 6-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the period.  Presbyterian grabbed its only goal of the half with 8:33 on the clock before the Eagles scored the final five goals to hold an 11-1 lead at the break.

Presbyterian scored only 1:01 into the second half on a man-up goal but Winthrop quickly responded to regain a 10-goal edge.  The Blue Hose again got the deficit under 10 before the Eagles scored back-to-back goals to push its lead to 11.  Presbyterian grabbed one more goal as Winthrop scored the last three to reach the 17-4 final.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Creighton's seven goals came on eight shots and she also added an assist.  Lauren Morris added three goals and two assists while McKenna Blick scored twice and assisted on two others.

Winthrop finished with 37 shots, placing 29 on goal while Presbyterian had 12 shots, putting eight on frame.  The Eagles dominated the draw circle, corralling 17 draw controls to the Blue Hose's four.

Winthrop wraps up the road schedule of its conference season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest against the Longwood Lancers.
