BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (8-3, 4-0 Big South) posted its fourth-consecutive victory and stayed undefeated in Big South Conference play with a 5-2 win over Campbell (8-7, 2-1 Big South) Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-The Eagles dropped the opening doubles point for just the fourth time this season, as Winthrop and Campbell would split the first two courts to finish, the Camels taking the No. 1 position and the Eagles taking No. 2, and CU taking the decision at No. 3 with a 6-4 win.  
 
-Winthrop would right the ship in singles play, winning five-straight courts before Campbell would earn its second point of the match, all in straight sets.
 
-Rafaela Santos posted a shutout first set at the No. 4 position, going on to a 6-0, 6-3 victory, to lead the way, followed by Tayla Van Eck (6-1, 6-4), Alisa Soloveva (6-3, 6-3), Ellie Burns (6-4, 6-3) and No. 51 Lauren Proctor (6-3, 6-2).
 
-At No. 3 Megan Kauffman and Lea Cutura split the first and second sets and, with the team match decision decided, played a super tiebreaker third set, where Cutura would edge Kauffman 10-7 to earn a second point for the Camels.  
 
NOTABLES
-The victory marked the first time this season the Eagles won the overall match after dropping the opening doubles point. Winthrop had only lost the doubles point three times previously this season, each resulting in a loss.
 
-Soloveva pushed her winning streak to eight-consecutive matches, six of which she has taken in straight sets. The eight-match streak matches her career-long winning streak of the 2018 season.
  
UP NEXT
The Eagles enjoy two home matches at Rock Hill Tennis Center next weekend, hosting Furman on Sat., Mar. 16 and Big South foe Longwood on Sun., Mar. 17. Both matches are set for 1 p.m. starts and admission is free.
