ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (8-4, 4-0 Big South) fell 4-3 in nonconference competition with in-state foe Furman (16-1, 2-0 SoCon) Saturday afternoon at Rock Hill Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-No. 53 Lauren Proctor was impressive in a battle of nationally ranked players at the court one position, taking down No. 50 Katarina Kozarov 6-1, 6-1. The senior has won five-straight matches, all in straight-sets.

-The Eagles and Paladins would be locked at 2-2 as Furman took the No. 5 court. Furman would pull ahead and clinch victory with wins at No. 4 and No. 3.

-Senior Ellie Burns posted her fifth-straight win, with a third-set tiebreaker decision at No. 6. Burns took the opening set 6-3, with Furman's Georgie Walker answering 6-4 in the second. Burns took the match with 10-point tiebreaker win.

Winthrop went on to win the matches against Liberty and Auburn.
