STATESBORO, Ga. – Winthrop men's tennis (6-5) took a 6-1 victory over Kennesaw State (4-5) on the campus of Georgia Southern Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Winthrop and Kennesaw State split the first two courts in doubles play with Connor Williamson and Diego Quiroz winning court one 6-1 and Gaston Muhammad and Fermin Calvo earning a 6-3 victory over Winthrop's Aditya Gokhale and Alberto Tinagli at the No. 2 position. Gabriel Dias and Lluis Miralles secured the point for the Eagles with a 6-4 win at court three.
 
-Williamson and Gokhale kept the momentum going in singles play, putting up straight-set wins for a 3-0 lead.
 
-Quiroz clinched the win for the Eagles with a three-set win at the No. 1 position. After Quiroz took the first set 6-3, Calvo held on for a tiebreak second set win to force a deciding third set. Quiroz stormed back in the third for a shutout 6-0 set and the match win.
 
-Dias and Tinagli went to three sets as well, each dropping the middle set but outlasting his Owl opponent with dominant third sets. Dias posted a 6-1 third set while Tinagli won his third set 6-2.
 
-The Owls would get on the board with a three-set win at court six.  

NOTABLES
 
-Senior Diego Quiroz and freshman Alberto Tinagli each extended his singles winning streak to seven-consecutive matches. The seven-match winning streak is a career-long for both student-athletes.
 
-In doubles play, Quiroz and Williamson also own a seven-match winning streak.

UP NEXT
The Eagles return to Rock Hill Tennis Center next weekend for two matches, hosting Appalachian State on Sat., Mar. 16 at 1 p.m., then taking on Big South opponent Longwood on Sun., Mar. 17 at 3 p.m.
