ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop men's tennis (7-5, 2-0 Big South) posted a 5-2 victory over Appalachian State (4-10) Saturday afternoon at Rock Hill Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Winthrop took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.
 
-Gabriel Dias sparked the Eagles off to a fast start in singles play with a 6-1 win in his first set, then a match win as his opponent retired the match.
 
-Connor Williamson won his seventh of his last eight matches, a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Alex Pavkovich, to give Winthrop a 3-0 lead.
 
-App State got on the board with a win at the No. 4 position as Zion Heaven defeated Alberto Tinagli 6-3, 6-3. The loss was the first for Tinagli in eight matches, ending a seven-match winning streak.
 
-Diego Quiroz posted the clinching fourth point with a three-set win at court one. After falling to Milo Bargeron 6-3 in the first set, Quiroz bounced back for a 7-5 second set win, then surged ahead for a dominant 6-1 third set and match win.
 
-With the team decision decided, the two squads  split the final two courts in action, with the Mountaineers earning a three-set win at No. 5, Afonso Viana over Aditya Gokhale, and Winthrop's Lluis Miralles taking a three-setter at No. 6 over Campbell Stone.

NOTABLES
 
-Senior Diego Quiroz extended his singles winning streak to eight-consecutive matches. The eight-match winning streak is a career-long for the senior.
 
-After dropping his first match in the No. 2 position against Georgia Southern, Williamson has won two-straight after moving up a position in the lineup.
 
-With their doubles wins, duos Gabriel Dias/Lluis Miralles and Aditya Gokhale/Alberto Tinagli each pulled their overall doubles records to .500, at 4-4 and 3-3, respectively.
