STATESBORO, Ga. – Winthrop men's tennis (5-5) fell 5-2 to Georgia Southern (8-4) on the road Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Winthrop had a promising start to the day with Diego Quiroz and Connor Williamson posting a 6-0 shutout victory at No. 1 doubles, but Georgia Southern would take the remaining two courts to take the point, both with a score of 6-4.
 
-Quiroz recorded the Eagles' first point, earning a 6-3, 7-6 (7) victory at the No. 1 position against Antonio Muniz.
 
-In a lineup change, Williamson took to the singles court at No. 2, while Gabriel Dias played the No. 3 position. Each pushed his second set to a seven-game decision, with Williamson falling in a tiebreaker, but Georgia Southern would come out on top on both courts for a 3-1 lead.
 
-Georgia Southern secured victory with a win at No. 6 as Leandros Pappayiannis re-entered the lineup for his first action since Jan. 12, 2019 against Charlotte.
 
-Georgia Southern took the fourth position, with Aditya Gokhale also falling just short in a tiebreaker second set, while Alberto Tinagli earned Winthrop's second point with a three-set battle at No. 5. Tinagli took the first and third sets over Pascal Wagemaker, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

NOTABLES
-Senior Diego Quiroz and freshman Alberto Tinagli each extended his singles winning streak to six-consecutive matches.
