Eagles Win Third-Straight With 6-1 Victory Over Radford

Winthrop now 3-0 in Big South play.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop women's tennis (7-3, 3-0 Big South) earned its third-straight victory with a 6-1 win over Radford (5-4, 2-1) Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-The Eagles took the doubles point for the seventh time on the season, with Tayla Van Eck and Ellie Burns opening the day with a 6-0 victory. Alisa Soloveva and Rafaela Santos finished their match for just the second time in the past five matches, clinching the doubles point with their 6-2 win. No. 31-ranked duo Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman wrapped up their 6-3 win moments later on court one.
 
-No. 51 Proctor finished first in singles play for the third-straight match, posting a shutout 6-0, 6-0 victory over Anastasia Belyaeva.
 
-Van Eck gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 position, followed by the clinching fourth point coming from Santos at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
 
-Burns put up a shutout second set for the second-consecutive match, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win at court six.
 
-With the match decided, Radford got on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position.
 
-Soloveva wrapped up the win with a straight-set victory at No. 2. The junior trailed much of her first set, but down 3-4 she turned the tables on Radford's Drousile Dzeubou to take a 5-4 lead. Soloveva held on for a 7-5 win and battled to a 6-3 second set and match win.
 
NOTABLES
-Proctor has yet to allow a Big South opponent more than one game in a set in singles play.
 
-Soloveva pushed her winning streak to seven-consecutive matches, five of which she has taken in straight sets.
 
-Van Eck and Burns have posted five-straight wins at the No. 3 doubles spot, including two-consecutive 6-0 shutouts.

-Alya Mourad also posted a Winthrop victory in an exhibition contest, 6-3, 6-2 over Radford's Marielle Leahy.

The Eagles head to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on Campbell Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
