ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop men's tennis (7-11, 2-5 Big South) faltered in its final home match of the season as Gardner-Webb (8-6, 3-1) came away with a 7-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Gardner-Webb grabbed early momentum with the opening doubles point with wins on courts one and three, taking advantage of service breaks.
 
-The Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-0 with two quick straight-set wins at courts two and five.
 
-At the No. 1 position Diego Quiroz appeared in control, out to a 5-2 lead in the first set, but Gardner-Webb's Maximilian Scholl held his service games and put together two breaks to take a 6-5 lead. Quiroz evened the tally again at 6-6 on serve, but fell in the ensuing set tiebreak. Scholl rode the momentum into the second set with a 6-1 win, clinching the team victory for the Bulldogs.
 
-Gabriel Dias and Aditya Gokhale each found themselves on the wrong end of three-setters at courts three and four, respectively.
 
-At No. 6, Leandros Pappayiannis battled throughout with Stefano Puga. Puga managed a 7-5 win in the first set, but Pappayiannis pulled ahead for a 6-3 margin in the second. With the team score decided, the match would be decided in a 10-point super tiebreaker instead of a full third set. Puga edged Pappayiannis 10-8 in the tiebreaker to complete the match sweep.
