WHAT HAPPENED
  • Eagles got all they needed in the bottom of the first inning as Keleigh Romine singled with two outs and then scored all the way from first on a double to left center by Ansley Gilreath
  • Tori Walker was hit by a pitch to lead off the third as the Eagles eventually loaded the bases with no outs
  • Brooke Perry struck out Gilreath followed by a line out by Brooke Ellison but the Eagles did manage a run on a fielding error off the bat of Taylor Charlton
  • The Eagles opened the game in the fifth as Gilreath drew a two-out walk to get things started
  • Ellison followed with a single to left center and then Charlton reached on an infield single to short to load the bases
  • Wallert hit a fly ball to right that fell right in front of the right fielder giving chase against the wind as the ball hit the ground and bounced past
  • All the runners came around to score and Wallert hustled to third just beating the throw to make it a bases-clearing triple
  • Bella Roy gave up her only hit in the sixth inning with one out as Walker gave a good diving effort to try and make the catch but Annamarie Warley came away with the hit
EXTRA BASES
  • Eagles take their first series of league play this season as they hold the league's top scoring offense to just three runs
  • Winthrop finished the game 5-for-12 with two outs while Roy held the Runnin' Bulldogs to 0-for-7
  • Wallert drove in a run for the second straight game and finished the series with four RBI, tying Madyson Watson for the team-high on the weekend
  • Wallert has now hit safely in five straight games and has bumped her average by 43 points during the streak
  • Romine reached base for the eighth straight game, tying Ashley Westbrooks for the longest current streak
  • The shutout was just the second for the Eagles on the year
  • This was the first time the Eagles took a series from Gardner-Webb since the 2015 season
