BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Winthrop men's tennis (7-10, 2-4 Big South) dropped a fourth-straight conference match to fall to 2-4 as Campbell (11-4, 4-1) took a 5-2 win at Nisbet Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Campbell took the opening doubles point with wins at the first and third positions.
-The Camels jumped out to a 3-0 lead with singles wins at No. 4 and No. 2 before the Eagles would get on the board with a straight-set win at No. 5. In a line-up change from the past few matches,
Alberto Tinagli and
Aditya Gokhale switched positions at four and five, breaking a five-match losing streak for Tinagli. Tinagli posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over Aaron Cabo.
-Campbell clinched a team win at No. 6 as Ted Williams won a close match over
Lluis Miralles, 6-4, 7-5 and added its fifth point at No. 3 as Raphael Calzi came out on top in a three-set dragout with
Gabriel Dias.
-With the match decided,
Diego Quiroz downed Dustin Werner in another three-setter at the No. 1 position. Quiroz and Werner traded 6-3 sets in the first and second, then battled it out for the third set, in which Quiroz pushed ahead for a 7-6 tiebreaker decision.
