HAMPTON, Va. – Winthrop women's tennis (11-4, 7-0 Big South) upended Hampton (2-10, 0-4) at Neilson-Screen Stadium Friday afternoon to improve to 7-0 in the Big South Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
-Winthrop took the opening doubles point with wins on all three courts, including 6-0 shutouts at the first two positions.  
 
-Ellie Burns led off the Eagles in singles play, posting her second-straight victory allowing her opponent no more than one game per set as she defeated Julia D'Auvergne 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
 
-No. 43 Lauren Proctor scored next for the Eagles with an identical match win, 6-1, 6-0 over Yulia Kapitanova.
 
-Rafaela Santos would clinch a team win for Winthrop with another 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 over Haley Mullins.
 
-Hampton's Cherise Slocombe pushed Alisa Soloveva at the No. 2 position in the first set, with Soloveva coming out with a 7-5 set win, then storming ahead in the second for a 6-1 set and match.
 
-The Pirates earned a point with a close 6-4, 7-5 win by Kiah Turner at No. 3 over Megan Kauffman.  

 NOTABLES
-Each of the Eagles' five singles victories came in straight sets.

-Soloveva extended her career-long winning streak to 12 singles victories, 10 of which she has taken in straight sets.
 
-Santos became the fourth Eagle to reach double-digit singles victory with her 10^th win of the season, joining Burns, Proctor and Soloveva.
 
-No. 46 doubles duo Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman improved to 11-3 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.

UP NEXT
The Eagles play a second-consecutive road match Saturday, taking on No. 28 Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. at 1 p.m.
