NASHVILLE, TN – The Winthrop lacrosse team dropped a road contest Saturday afternoon, 17-3, to the Vanderbilt Commodores.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vanderbilt (7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 2:22 of the contest.
Mia Creighton got Winthrop (1-8) on the board on a feed from
Lauren Morris. The Eagles, however, then went more than 24 minutes without a point as the Commodores went on a 10-0 run, taking a 12-1 lead. Each team scored a goal in the last three minutes to reach a 13-2 halftime score.
A low-scoring second half saw Vanderbilt grab the first two goals with Creighton scoring Winthrop's only goal of the second period. The Commodores added two more to reach the 17-3 final score.

Mia Creighton had a hand in all three of Winthrop's goals, scoring twice and assisting on the other goal.
McKenna Blick scored the Eagles' other goal. Goalie
Alaina Girani recorded 17 saves in the contest.

Winthrop continues on the road Thursday as the Eagles take on in-state opponent Wofford. The Eagles and Terries have a 6 p.m. opening draw in Spartanburg.
