Morris' Six Goals Leads Eagles To Big 18-4 Victory At Wofford Thursday

SPARTANBURG, SCLauren Morris' six-goal, eight-point performance Thursday propelled the Winthrop lacrosse team to an 18-4 victory on the road over the Wofford Terriers.

Winthrop improved to 2-8 on the season with the victory while Wofford fell to 2-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop got the offense going early, going up 6-0 in the opening 9:27 of the contest.  The Terriers grabbed their first goal of the contest with 20:33 on the clock before Winthrop went on an 8-0 run, taking a commanding 14-1 lead with just over six minutes left in the half.  Wofford scored the last two goals of the half to send the game into the break at 14-3.

The defense for the Eagles helped Winthrop maintain its lead in the second half as the Eagles limited the Terriers to only three shots and one goal, coming with 39 seconds left in the contest.  Lauren Morris, Lauren Lee and Lauren Asher each scored in the second half for the Eagle.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Lauren Morris finished the game with six goals and two assists on eight shots and she also corralled five draw controls.  Mia Creighton, McKenna Blickand Lauren Asher each scored three goals.  Megan Dee led the Eagles with seven draw controls.  Alaina Girani allowed only three goals and made six saves in just over 44 minutes of action.

Winthrop outshot the Terriers 29-11 and put 25 shots on target.  The Eagles won the draw control battle 17-6 and the ground ball battle 15-11.  Winthrop was perfect on the clears for the evening going 15-for-15.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop has only a day to prepare for its next contest as the Eagles will host the Mercer Bears on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Eagle Field.
